Newsletters

The SEELS newsletter is produced quarterly to keep interested parties updated on the study data collection activities. Newsletters are available in both English and Spanish.

Fall 2003

Highlights:

This newsletter provides an update of the third wave of the SEELS data collection effort including Parent Interviews, Student Assessments and School Data Collection.

It also provides some findings from the SEELS teacher surveys about the classroom experiences of students with disabilities.

SEELS data reveal that accommodations play an important role in the daily experiences of the majority of students with disabilities.

Spring 2002

Highlights:

This newsletter describes the second wave of the data collection efforts.

Findings from parent interviews indicate that parents of students with disabilities perceive their children as having a variety of strengths.

The largest proportions of children were reported to be strong in two areas that are personality traits: having a sense of humor (91%) and being sensitive to others' feelings (84%).

About 70% of students were reported to have an aptitude for athletics.

Fall 2001

Highlights:

This newsletter provides a brief description of the various data collection components.

Early results from parent interviews and surveys indicate that parents are very active in their children's schools; about 85% of students had a parent attend a parent-teacher conference or general school meeting.

About 75% of students had a family member attend a student-centered school event, such as a play.

It was also found that the level of involvement of families of students with disabilities was very similar to that of families of students in the general population.
